Which camera to buy in 2024?

This is a question that I get A LOT from friends and my followers. And there isn't a better answer then "it depends". It does indeed depend on what you want to do with it, on where do you live and ultimately, on how much you're willing to pay. Let's try to break down the different categories based on the best products on the market.

Some assumptions

This is going to be your first camera
You already know the basic photography concepts such as ISO, aperture, etc
Interchange-able lenses
Both photography and videography are important
Budget under 2500 euros

Best brand?

Probably the hardest of all the questions. The best camera brand to buy depends on your specific needs, budget, and use case:

Sony: The Sony Alpha A7 IV is a top choice, offering excellent image quality, fast autofocus, and strong video capabilities.
Canon: The Canon EOS R6 Mark II provides superb color science, great video features, and excellent low-light performance.
Nikon: The Nikon Z6 II offers robust build quality, excellent image performance, and good ergonomics.
Fujifilm: The Fujifilm X-T5 is ideal for enthusiasts, with great image quality, unique film simulations, and a retro design.
Panasonic: The Panasonic Lumix GH6 is excellent for videographers, offering exceptional video performance within a budget-friendly price.

Mirrorless or DSLR?

In 2024, mirrorless cameras are generally better for beginners compared to DSLRs due to their advanced technology and user-friendly features. They offer faster and more accurate autofocus, superior video capabilities, and electronic viewfinders that provide a real-time preview of exposure and settings. Mirrorless cameras are also more compact and lightweight, making them easier to handle and carry around. With a wider range of modern lenses and accessories, they provide greater flexibility for various photography styles, making them an excellent choice for those starting out.

Cheapest option?

The Nikon Z5 is an excellent choice in 2024 for those seeking an affordable yet high-quality full-frame mirrorless camera.
